"I like a challenge, I like to take on new tasks and try new things. I've tried a
great variety of work in many materials already, and like the idea of having
to learn new skills in order to complete a project."
Most people are happy to accept models made with modern materials, using modern tools and
techniques. With this in mind I've worked in a wide variety of synthetic plastics, resins and rubbers
as well as metals, glass and natural materials such as wood, leather and stone, always
trying to choose the most appropriate materials for the task, which will often depend upon
the scale I'm working in. For a small display case model, particularly a painted miniature
figure, building or scenic diorama, it is usually the cosmetic work to finish the piece, rather
than the choice of material it is made from, that makes all the difference. I take
pride in my ability to produce realistic, subdued and naturally weathered finishes on models, rather than the
dimensionally accurate yet artificially shiny surfaces often seen on new work. Of course should the customer
wish a pristine showcase finish, then this can be supplied.
Whilst modern materials, tools and techniques are generally easier and cheaper to use for model making,
when making historic replicas for museum display or re-enactment, my preference is to stick to authentic
materials and traditional working techniques. This produces items with a little more character. My
interest in, and role as, a pewterer in a 17th Century Living History Group is obviously directing my
time and effort in this direction, but I continue to work in as wide a variety of materials
as I possibly can, and make objects from a wide variety of periods.
For your ease the commission galleries are divided into several different categories:
There is also more information about the type of work I have undertaken in the
about me section
"Figure painting and/or sculpting, architectural work and model weathering. Small scale models or full size
replicas. Static display pieces or functional items for re-enactment. Castings produced
from your own masters. Any period of history willingly considered."
"If you think I may be able to produce what you are looking for feel free
to contact me to discuss your requirements."
