Miniatures by Aidan Campbell

Bay window My interest in architecture goes back to early childhood when I began making model buildings with wooden blocks and Lego. Things have obviously progressed since then and I can now derive as much pleasure from researching, and sketching historic buildings as making models of them. Though for all the splendour of Gothic churches and Elizabethan manor houses I still find the greatest charm in weed covered derelict industrial Victorian brick architecture being reclaimed by nature.

I feel a scale of around 1/43rd or 1/48th is often best suited to most model buildings but can work in any scale appropriate to a clients needs, be it 1/150th scale or smaller for models portaying a large area of landscape, the common 1/76th scale, or as large as 1/12th scale for modelling interiors. The subject matter can be your very own house and garden, your local railway station, a mythical castle and enchanted woodland from a favourite film, whatever takes your fancy. I can work from detailed drawings and architects plans or just a few photographs and sketches, or could produce a freelance design of a generic type of building made to fit into a space within a larger model. You specify the finish and level of detail, including full interiors and lighting if you so desire.

Whatever your needs for a model building, be it for a presentation piece to show to a council planning department or contractor, or a heavily weathered and landscaped scenic diorama to serve as a backdrop to display your own collection of models against feel, free to get in touch.
